A thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide, laced with clouds of sulfuric acid, creates a runaway greenhouse effect, driving surface temperatures to a scorching 465°C — hot enough to melt lead.

However, at an altitude of 50 to 60 kilometres above the surface, the temperature and pressure become remarkably Earth-like.
